Weekly Log

I just returned from Spring Break and got back into the swing of things.  I had emailed Max asking which day I should start by coming in on.  He didn't respond so I just came in on Tuesday and he said he was sorry for not responding but it wasn't a big deal.  I like how everyone here realizes that it can be strenous to work on a computer all day so they make sure to take their breaks when they need to.  They really love their tea and coffee over here.  I like the fact that they have a kitchen in the office place to make coffee, tea, or food.   It is kind of a gathering room for everyone to talk about things other than what they are doing that day for work, or course they may talk about it anyway.

Again I was working on getting used to the platforms, mainly factlink.com and I started on Wissenpool.  I met with David again and we talked about the differences between the states and Austria and how in Austria it is much harder to start a business.  We also talked about how Austrians don't have to pay for school.  He was amazed at how much I have to pay to go to school.  David actually told me how he wants to start his own business for computer designs and he can't because he doesn't have the money or a way to get the money.  But he really does enjoy his work here and works hard because he cares about factline.  I don't know about how people in the US care about a business that isn't theirs but I sure hope they care as much as David does.

David showed me how to do some things on the platforms as far as creating folders, texts, and moving the texts.  The hardest thing to get used to was using this knowlege on the wissenpool website which is a little more difficult than the factline.com.  I got the hang of it though and it didn't take long.  Max is impressed with how quicky I have been able to pick up what they are doing here.  He says sometimes it takes weeks to explain exactly how something works but I feel that playing around with computers as a teenager is actually coming in handy here.  Just organizing folders and texts is something I have done ever since i wrote a paper on the computer at home.  So it feels like this  is something I have been practicing for.

I also talked with Max about looking at how their finances work.  I have taken several classes for accounting and finance.  It is asubject that interests me to see the difference between how the US handles accounting compared to how they do here in Austria.  Max also plans to have me meet with Renate to go over the finance situation.  Renate is and older woman who is very nice and in charge of the finance, the catch though is that she speaks only in German.   So I am really going to have to pay attention and make sure to take note of what she is showing me.
